The Sixers pay homage to Allen Iverson

‘The Answer’ saw his retired t-shirt in the match between the 76ers and the Wizards at the Wells Fargo Center.

It was an AMAZING tribute by the franchise of Philadelphia , to one of the best players of the NBA and also, one of the best players of the franchise together with Moses Malone and Julius Irving.

His childhood was not that easy, due to the fact that he lived and grew up surrounded by violence. His father was in prison because of stabbing a woman, and his stepfather was a dealer. Besides this, he saw how eight of his friends died in gunfire. Apart from this, Allen Iverson was that neighborhood kid with good qualities for basketball, but people did not predict for him more than 30 years of life.

And then, John Thompson appeared. He was a coach in Georgetown and he was in charge of running Iverson on the right track. After two years in the university, he took the leap to the NBA, where he was named best Rookie of the year in 1997. In 2001 he was proclaimed MVP of the league, being the shorter player who obtained it (1.83 cm). Moreover, he was four times the leading scorer of the league and won the MVP of the All-Star game twice.

Throughout his 14 years in the League he achieved 26’7 points, 6’2 assists, 2’2 steals and 3’3 rebounds per game. Philadelphia, Denver, Detroit and Memphis had the chance to have on their rosters one of the best players in the history of NBA.
