Utah Jazz signs a five years old child, who suffers leukemia!

The Utah Jazz offered a day-contract to the young JP Gibson, aged only five, who made his dream a reality.

JP Gibson’s dream has come true. The five-years-old-child, who suffers acute lymphoblastic leukemia, became the latest signing of Utah Jazz. It was an admirable gesture when the Jazz surprised the press worldwide by signing a young boy of only five years old. Besides, it was followed the ordinary procedure when signing any player.

Firstly, Gibson and his family attended the signature of the contract, where Randy Rigby was waiting for them. The contract would bind hind and the franchise together for one day, and would make him a player of the Utah Jazz.

After signing the contract, the new signing up had time to talk to the press, always accompanied by his father. There it was revealed the number that he would wear printed on his jersey, number 1.

His mother, Megan, could not hide her feelings and stated: ‘He loves sports, but basketball is his favorite one. He was just one when he watched the matches with my husband Josh. He shot for an hour before going to sleep whe he was just 15-months-old. He knows that he must be six in order to play in Jazz Junior teams, and he is always saying that he cannot wait all that time.’

It was his turn after the interview with the press. He would wear the same jersey that legends of this sport such as Karl Malone or John Stockton had used years before. In the third quarter, with 29 seconds left, the speaker announced the entrance of the franchise’s new acquisition.

The coach of the Jazz, Snyder, designed a play in which Gibson could impress. The young point-guard drove the ball to 3pt shot line, where he took advantage of Jeremy Evans’screen for achieving the paint. Here, he dribbled Dante Exum and helped by Gobert he ended with an amazing two hands dunk. “JP Gibson with the two hands slam”, shouted Utah’s commentator. The public at Energy Solutions Arena went crazy with that dunk. He got it, his dream become true.

It was really significant the intervention of Jon Díaz, one of the photographers of the Jazz, who transforms the dreams and wished of children with cancer into unforgettable adventures. It is done through the project ‘Everything can be’.

Once again the NBA shows that is the best league in the world, not only at a sportive scale but also at a human level. A few months ago, the 76ers surprised everyone offering a signing to a young boy of 18 years old with Down Syndrome. Yesterday it was the Jazz, and nobody knows what will happen in a future.

‘Where amazing happens” is the slogan of the league. It involves the sportive and extra sportive thing. It can be found under this motto, some stories as humane as JP Gibson’s.

JP Gibson ha cumplido su sueño. El joven de 5 años, víctima de una leucemia linfoblástica aguda, se convirtió en el último fichaje de los Utah Jazz. En un gesto admirable, los Jazz sorprendían a la prensa de todo el mundo al anunciar el fichaje de un joven de tan solo 5 años. Además, se siguió el procedimiento habitual a la hora de firmar a cualquier jugador.

Primero, Gibson y su familia acudieron a la firma de contrato, donde Randy Rigby los esperaba con el fin de rubricar el contrato. Un contrato que lo vincularía con la franquicia por un día y por el que el joven se convertiría en jugador de los Utah Jazz.

Tras la firma del contrato, el flamante fichaje de los Jazz tuvo tiempo para charlar con la prensa, siempre bien acompañado por su padre. Allí se desveló el número que el jugador llevaría impreso en su camiseta, el 1.

La madre de Gibson, Megan, no podía ocultar su emoción y declaró: "Le encantan los deportes, pero el baloncesto es su favorito. Con tan solo un año, se sentaba a ver los partidos con mi marido Josh. Lanzaba tiros a canasta durante una hora antes de irse a dormir con tan solo 15 meses. El sabe que para jugar en los equipos Junior de los Jazz tiene que tener 6 años, y no para de recordarnos que no puede esperar hasta que cumpla los 6 años".

Tras hablar con la prensa llegaba su hora. La hora de lucir la misma camiseta que años atrás habían portado leyendas de este deporte como Karl Malone o John Stockton. Fue en el tercer cuarto, a falta de 29 segundos para el final, cuando el speaker de los Jazz anunciaba la entrada de la nueva adquisición de la franquicia.

El entrenador de los Jazz, Snyder, diseñó una jugada en la que Gibson pudiera lucirse. Con mucha autoridad el joven base subió la bola hasta la línea de tres, donde aprovechó el bloqueo del alero Jeremy Evans para plantarse solo en la pintura. Aquí supo deshacerse de Dante Exum y ayudado por Gobert realizó un espectacular mate a dos manos. "JP Gibson finaliza con un espectacular mate a dos manos", gritaba el comentarista de Utah. El público del "Energy Solutions Arena" enloqueció con el mate de Gibson. Lo había logrado, su sueño se había hecho realidad.

Mucho tiene que ver la figura de Jon Diaz, uno de los fotógrafos de los Jazz, quien hace de los sueños y deseos de niños que padecen cáncer, auténticas aventuras inolvidables. Y todo ello lo hace a través del proyecto "Todo puede ser".

Una vez más la NBA demuestra que es la mejor liga del mundo, no solo a nivel deportivo, sino a nivel humano. Hace apenas unos meses, los 76ers sorprendían a todo el mundo al ofrecer un contrato a un joven de 18 años con Síndrome de Down. Ayer fueron los Jazz y quién sabe que ocurrirá en un futuro.
"Where Amazing Happens" (Dónde ocurre lo increíble), es el lema principal de la liga. Un lema que engloba lo deportivo y extradeportivo. Un lema bajo el qué podemos encontrar historias tan humanas como la de JP Gibson.
